Munchausen Mom’s Family Defends Her

ki.jpgThe family of the mother jailed on suspicion of causing the near-critical state of her toddler child continues to insist she is a model parent. Medical officials however continue to insist they have documentation that the mother sabotaged her child’s condition, theorizing she has Munchausen by proxy, which causes her to intentionally cause her child’s need for medical attention in order to get attention for herself.

Rebbitzin Yocheved Grossman of Meah Shearim, among the leaders of the battle to obtain the mother’s release, questions how this marvelous mother is being treated as a “war criminal, thrown into jail, and distanced from her children”. She decried the fact that they are “taking a normal mother and making her into a nut”. Her statements are supported by chareidi teenage women who volunteered in the hospital, assisting to take care of the child.

HaRav Yosef Kroizer, a friend of the family, questions how authorities can imprison a pregnant woman, a devoted mother and wife, calling it a blood libel against the chareidi community.

Dr. Yair Birnbaum, deputy director general of Hadassah Hospital [who is a shomer shabbos Jew and resident of Har Nof] insists the child does not have cancer and medical testing has shown the child does not have any medical illness. The child underwent extensive medical testing, prompting doctors to begin looking in the direction of possible abuse or neglect.

If the court on Friday morning decides to extend the mother’s remand, increased violence is expected.

  1. Look at this sick photo. An outrage! This poor little child was misdiagnosed and given chemotherapy for over a year and then the doctor has the nerve to blame the mother for starving him causing his hair to fall out when she was warned against giving him anything to eat or drink all along. The doctor should replace the woman in jail.

  2. Was the government’s decision to make an issue in the case tied to the visit of a Neturei Karta delegation to Gaza?

Note the hiloni press initially made a big point of connecting the family with Neturei Karta (a housewife with time to dabble in international politics?).

Since some of the woman’s supporters said the child had been treated for cancer (which would explain the appearance after treatment), and the hospital denies it, is it clear the woman is both fluent and literate in Israeli Hebrew (enough to understand complex medical discussions and documents) or that the doctors were fluent in Yiddish.

  3. This is terrible..terrible..terrible… Can not someone intervene to help the child properly and resolve this terrible situation?

  4. Interesting how this Dr. Birnbaum says that the boy does not have cancer and was given extensive testing to determine this. HE APPROPRIATELY FORGETS TO MENTION THAT THEY TREATED THE POOR BOY WITH CHEMO!!!! OF ALL THE NERVE TO TWIST THE FACTS IN HIS STATEMENT! (assuming that is all he said..)Once it is known and admitted that he recieved chemo it will be clear that the doctors caused this unfortunate situation not his mother! And by the way this disease they are referring to manchauson- is not even what they claim it to be! Someone who has this disease is like a hypochondriac who insisits their child is ill. They do not do anything to MAKE the child sick! So these doctors need to look for a better cover up than that.

  5. c.o.- people suffering from munchausen biproxy will INTENTIONALLY harm their kids for attention. this boy was nebach a victim of s/o with this disease! why is everyone trying to warp that? thats the fact! the fact that he got chemo was a misdiagnose but his mom is still sick with munchausen!

  6. theObvious,

It’s VERY obvious that you don’t have the faintest idea of what you are talking about. It’s “a fact” that the mother has this disorder?!

Do you have any idea of the extent of medical error and mismanagement associated with a wrong diagnosis of cancer! Cancer is a definitive diagnosis, not a hypothesis. The terrible effects of receiving chemo in error is incalculable. It is apparent that you have little to zero medical knowledge.

What gives you the right to assert that “his mom is still sick with Munchhausen”?! In truth, it is you who is very, very sick, that you think it’s OK to smear someone like this based on news reports and the assertions of a medical staff who has grievously erred in their medical care of this poor victim. You must be truly sick to think you can state that a devoted mother has a mental disorder, or are you also one of the Haddassah staff, desperate to save your career?

It is not possible for someone whose child is in a public hospital ward (NOT a private room) to harm their child who has been hospitalized for months. The hospital and the hospital alone is implicated in the terrible care this boy received, including the wrongful treatment of chemotherapy over months time, despite the protests of this mom that the hospital is making an error.

“warp that”? Yes, someone is very, very warped!
