Maximizing on the anti-Israel sentiment in the White House and in the European community, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mualem did not miss the opportunity to bash Israel, releasing statements that Israel remains an obstacle to regional peace due to the ongoing Gaza embargo and Israel’s ongoing building in “settlements”.

Meeting in Cairo with a senior European Union official, Mualem called upon the international community to pressure Israel to make the necessary concessions to achieve peace in the region. He stressed the EU must play a major role in peace-making efforts.
