Monday Afternoon News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman called on State Comptroller Justice Micha Lindenstrauss to investigate leaks of classified information in the Foreign Ministry.

**Three no-confidence motions were defeated by the coalition in Knesset on Monday. The Kadima party abstained in one motion presented by Ichud HaLeumi challenging the prime minister’s acceptance of the two-state solution.

**A 21 Y/O Swedish tourist is in an ICU in Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital diagnosed with swine flu, the first serious case in Israel. The tourist’s mother has been diagnosed as well, but remains in light condition.

**Kadima is formulating a bill to counter the Mofaz bill, stating dissident MKs cannot serve as ministers or deputy ministers, thereby discouraging such a move.

**A male sustained serious injuries after entering an IDF training area. He was taken to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva. Officials are trying to ascertain if he was hit by gunfire from area ranges.

** The US dollar is trading on Monday at  3.987/NIS and the euro is 5.571/NIS.

**The Knesset approved the final reading of the Nursery School Bill, providing tax incentives to working mothers for children under 5. The bill passed in a 62-24 majority.

**The Gafne Bill providing NIS 100 million for mosdos chinch was approved by Knesset.

**One person was killed in a vehicular accident near the IAF’s Palmachim base.

**10 people were injured when an angered customer sprayed teargas in a Tel Aviv store.
