Report: IDF Training to Remove Outposts Ahead of Mitchell Visit

According to a report appearing in the daily HaMevaser quoting ‘informed sources in the Shomron,” the IDF last week held a major training event in the Adam training base simulating the removal of residents and dismantling of unauthorized outposts throughout Yehuda and Shomron. The planned operation is timed to coincide with an upcoming visit to US special Mideast envoy George Mitchell, with Jerusalem seeking to find favor in the eyes of the White House.

Yosh leaders are monitoring the situation, fearful the government plans to dismantle buildings in a major operation, based in part on reports that taking part in the training exercise were police and IDF troops, along with elite commando units including Yomam, Yassam, mounted units and border police. The “informed sources” are reporting that a border police unit is going to be deployed in Shomron this week, ahead of the operation.

The Shomron Residents’ Committee has begun informing residents, calling for increased vigilance for stepped-up activities by security forces.

The report comes at a time where Kiryat Arba Chief Rabbi Dov Lior Shlita released a psak halacha permitting the use of telephones on shabbos to alert others of impending security force activities to remove outposts.
