Attorney General Menachem Mazuz has decided not to launch a criminal investigation against Arab MK Ibrahim Sarsur for contacting an enemy agent. Mazuz was responding to a request from the Land of Israel Forum, which alleged that Sarsur did indeed break the law following a meeting in PA-occupied Shechem with Sheikh Hamad Bitawi, who is linked directly to the Izzadin el-Kassem Brigade, which is responsible for many terror attacks against Israeli targets. The forum also cited a number of senior officials in the Israel Islamic Association, who also attended the meeting.
In its request filed with the attorney general, the forum explains that a meeting with the sheikh in a PA autonomous area represents contacting an enemy agent.
Assistant District Attorney Raz Nazri stated there is no proof that MK Sarsur engaged in any illegal activity.
