MK Moshe Gafne, who chairs the Knesset Finance Committee, has turned to Attorney General Menachem Mazuz, demanding that a probe into decisions made by attorney Amnon DaHartuk, a former official in the Attorney General’s Office.
Gafne’s request was in response to an opinion piece by DaHartuk that appeared in the daily Haaretz, in which he launches a scathing attack against Chinuch Atzmai, labeling the chareidi educational network “an autonomous virtual body that should have been dissolved a long time ago. Governments are pouring funds into this crazy body to the tune of hundreds of millions annually.”
As such, Gafne is calling to retroactively check DaHartuk’s decisions pertaining to chareidi educational institutions and funding. Gafne states that “now it is clear” that DaHartuk’s agenda was his own, targeting Chinuch Atzmai towards bringing the chareidi institutions to their knees and ultimately, their closure.
Gafne cites the reality that existed over the last decades, in which the state permitted parents to choose between state schools and the Chinuch Atzmai recognized schools, both receiving equal funding. He also points out that DaHartuk’s son learns in a private recognized school, thereby in violation of a 2007 law, pointing out the hypocrisy of the situation.
Gafne insists the chareidi institutions are on the verge of collapse in no small part due to DaHartuk’s private agenda and his disdain for the frum lifestyle and education.

De Hartoch (or DeHartoch).
Not DeHartuk.
Even Haaretz and Ynetnews write this better…
Regrettably, he shares my own background, being Dutch. De Hartoch is one of the more common surnames of Jews in Holland, I believe.
But I fail to see how “De Hartoch” can be corrupted into “DeHartuk”.
