Mayor Barkat Met with Rabbonim and Elected Officials

nb1.jpgJerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has met with chareidi and dati leumi MKs in an effort to reach a solution that will lower the flames of conflict in the Jerusalem shabbos parking lot protests. The mayor also met on Thursday with representatives with the Eida Chareidis.

At present, it appears no agreement has reached and the city is planning to open the Carta parking lot and the Eida Chareidis will be protesting, promising a larger protest than last week. The Eida however has announced that only avreichim and adults are permitted to take part in this week’s protest, which is reportedly going to make its way from Meah Shearim to the Carta lot.

  1. Although “The Eida however has announced that only avreichim and adults are permitted to take part in this week’s protest”, that is not what the organizers of the hafgana are publicizing. This morning at 8 EST I spoke to my son who is learning in Yerushalayim. He let me listen to the announcements being made. They clearly called for EVERYONE to join. Thus despite the best intentions of the Gedolim, this will prove to be even a bigger CHILUL HASHEM than last week. Despite the Gedolim, the organizers are fanning the flames of hefkeros and ultimately sinas yisroel. No Godol suggested throwing things at police, yet a major American publication “from the community” headlined last week’s protest a “kiddush hashem” and yet showed a picture (clearly captioned) of a young fellow throwing something at police.

  2. what a shame. those chareidim that voted for him should regret their actions. I wonder if they are attending the protest. meanwhile an Americam bochur learning in Brisk has been arrested at the last protest. his suffering is also on their cheshbon.

  3. It’s time for parents to wake up and think long and hard before they send their tayere choshuve sons to yerusholayim. there are now choshuve mekomos tora in EY – OUT OF TOWN!!! e.g. Kiryat Sefer where there is a choshuver mokom tora – a yeshiva for american yeshiva bochurim with a normal tzura where the bochurim are out of yerusholayim all week and learning and shteiging instead of getting involved in other “mitzvos”… Out of sight should not be out of mind. When we send our sons to EY we want them to be LEARNING there!!!
