Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is remaining true to his word, stating the decision has been made to operate a shabbos parking lot and as such, a parking lot will operate this shabbos as was the case last week.
The mayor announced on Tuesday night that the threats made against him in recent days and the escalation in violence in protest over City Hall’s decision do not faze him and as such, plans are not changing due to the violent response of those who object to the city’s new policy.
In a related matter, three youths were taken into custody in a protest on Dovid Yellin Street in Jerusalem on Tuesday against the continued incarceration of people arrested in shabbos protests. Police report the three damaged parking meters. In the Bar Ilan area of the city, garbage receptacles were set ablaze on Tuesday as well.
The Eida Chareidis has announced that next week, it plans a major protest including students in its talmidei torah.
In the meantime, police have provided around-the-clock protection for Avraham Kroizer, the mayor’s advisor on chareidi affairs, who was the target of protests on Tuesday as well. Kroizer responded to the threats and slurs leveled against him, stating it is part of the job for anyone opting to be in the public spotlight, adding he will continue his efforts to preserve kedushas shabbos and the integrity of City Hall.

This is getting way out of hand. I wish I had a way to speak to the Eida Chareidus. There are 2 points here. As yiddin, we can not stand by and tolerate Chillul Shabbos. Yet on the other hand, Dina D’malchusa Dina, and this Mayor was elected. So if he decides to help Mechalei Shabbos, that is his decision, and we will have to accept it. What we can do, is try to be Mekarev the Mechahlei Shabbos, as well as protest quietly and peacfully (like sitting down in Safra Square saying Tehilim all Shabbos long). But to make a Chillul Hashem and to destroy public property, and to disrupt public safety, is much much much worse than being Mechallel Shabbos.

Barkat is proving to be worse than Olmert. Olmert didn’t show his true colors until he was “sheni l’melech”. Barket, despite his “even-handed” talk is showing it right away. What the Eidah Charedes must do now is make certain that there are no “rogue operations” (see yesterday’s Yeshiva World) otherwise the chillul hashem created will outweigh any attempts at kiddush hashem. All yeshivos/mosdos must take full responsibility for the actions of their talmidim.
Is is realy unbelievable how 90 years later the Chareidim just dont get it. The whole year nobdy cares that 80 percent of the Nation doesnt know anything about Shabbos, but all of a sudden when their own Shabbos gets a little disturbed they start burning Garbage cans like a bunch of cowards.(I dont think the Chashmonaim burned Garbage cans.They went out and fought like men)
What I suggest is instead of the animosity that Chareidim have had for the past 90 years which has caused much of todays problem – try some Love all year through and realize that these people know nothing of what real Judiasim is about. Educate them all year with a stretched out hand and be pataint just as Hashem is with you with all your filth that you do all year long (loshon hara and other…..)Instead of useless Hafganas lets try some Ahavat Yisrael and care enogh to do something about it that will realy help. When the non religous see on the news how the Chareidim act worse then a animal they say why should I learn about the Torah and join these wacked out hooligins. I dont understand who is telling the gedolai eretz yisrael that our aproach is hafganas, someone is misrepresenting to them what is realy going on out there. I suggest Am Yisrael start growing up and stop blaming the Gedolim for all our childish mistakes. A little commen sence will get us going a long way!!!!

SECOND: Don’t try to second-guess the authentic Torah leaders of the Eida Hachareidis. They have an approach based in Torah and on their authentic Torah traditions, going back to Horav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, ZT”L.
It could very well be that ehir protests are preventing wholesale slaughter of the Jewish people in Israel, because of Chilul Shabbos.
Also recall the Shabbos March are jointly called for by Rav Elyashev shlita, the Gerrer Rebbe shlita, Rav Ovadia Yosef, shlita, etc.

People, speak to your Rabbis, ask them to help you understand, if that is really your goal, but publicly speaking out against such great people is not advisable for your holy Neshamos.
