Rav Shmuel Yitzchaki early Sunday afternoon told Kol Chai Radio that he is ready to enter the opposition in Jerusalem, unwilling to remain in a coalition that is responsible for the chilul shabbos which is unacceptable. As YWN reported earlier, Yitzchaki is awaiting instructions from the Shas leadership, primarily a decision from Maran Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlita.
Yitzchaki joins a growing number of public and religious leaders who are accusing the well-intentioned mayor, Nir Barkat, of not properly assessing the situation, blaming him for the violence and destruction of property.
Yitzchaki added they he believes Mayor Barkat was out of line by turning to the court to operate the Carta lot, a company that is in receivership. He stressed secularists in the capital did not demand parking, but the mayor was responding to a police request but unfortunately, he failed miserably and did not receive accurate information as to the ramifications of such an act, opening the parking lot on Shabbos would have. He called it a gross violation of the city’s religious status quo, adding next shabbos is also in the mayor’s hands, making it clear the operating of a parking lot on shabbos would not be tolerated.
Yitzchaki insists if the parking lot is permitted to operated, it will lead to opening a shopping center or other chilul shabbos down the road.
Calling the mayor “a true friend”, he suggested that Mr. Barkat take the time to really learn and study the situation, and evaluate his actions towards making the correct decision.

Litfos b’chevel, Rav Yitzchaki!
Quit the coalition, and have all the other charedim quit, and educate this mayor in, apparently, the only way he’s going to understand: SHABBOS!
