Haifa Municipality will address the poor state of the Cave of Eliyahu, where according to tradition, Eliyahu fled from Achav. The cave is in a state of disrepair and neglect.
According to a report in the weekly Mishpacha newspaper, the state of the site is profound disrepair and it poses a risk to visitors in its present state. Some of the steps are broken and possibly dangerous, and definitely making access a formidable challenge to the elderly, children in carriages and the disabled. The report states two women were injured as a result of falling there this year.
The roads and paths leading to the holy site are strewn with trash, a sore site according to those working to push the facelift project.
Haifa’s mayor has responded positively and indicated a meeting to discuss the cave and possible renovations will be held next month.
