Following the dispute of Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin and Knesset legal counsel Nurit Elstein, Rivlin has decided to dismiss her from her post. The law however does not permit him to just oust her, and as such, she will end her tenure next year.
Not wasting any time, Rivlin has already turned to High Court President Justice Dorit Beinish to head a selection panel to find a replacement, who is permitted to enter the post 90-days prior to Elstein stepping down.
The latest dispute between Rivlin and Elstein surrounded MK Moshe Matalon and his request for a fulltime driver due to the fact he is a paraplegic.
In his sharply-worded letter to Elstein, Rivlin stated he will not permit her to run the Knesset. Elstein told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) that she is not fighting with Rivlin, but she feels he is definitely out to get her.
Elstein will be calling it quits in April 2010 at the age of 65. She currently earns NIS 55,000 a month and once she retires, she will receive a pension equivalent to a district court judge, NIS 30,000 a month.
