The cabinet on Sunday extended the tenure of Mossad Intelligence Agency Director Meir Dagan until the end of 2010. Dagan has been at the helm of the intelligence organization since 2002, while the term in office is only 5 years. The extension Sunday, which ministers stated would be the last, was Dagan’s third.
While ministers at the weekly cabinet meeting had words of praise for Dagan, Ministers Meridor and Shteinitz, with the latter being a former chair of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee, stating the extension must be the last for Dagan, explaining while his performance is indeed commendable, new blood and a fresh approach is required.
