Authorities on Wednesday permitted reporting that four arrests were made in the 2006 murder of Dr. Daniel Yaakobi, a resident of Yakir in Shomron, who was murdered in the Kalkilye area. The arrests were made in April and May.
One of the suspects, Tayoun Tayoun, 21, admitted to his actions, telling interrogators that he committed the murder as an act of revenge for an Islamic Jihad member killed by IDF troops a day earlier.
ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) officials report that the victim, Dr. Yaakobi, arrived in the village of Hajeh to have his vehicle repaired in the garage operated by a brother of the suspect. As he exited his vehicle, Tayoun struck him over the head with a blunt object and continued beating him until he collapsed.
Two of his friends arrived as this was taking place, and they assisted him in placing Dr. Yaakobi in his vehicle, which they then set ablaze. An indictment is expected to be filed against the four in the coming days.
Authorities report some of the suspects are aligned with Islamic Jihad and others with Fatah Tanzim.
