Foreign Minister finds himself in a better place today, Monday, as he prepares to meet with foreign minister of 27 European Union nations. Following Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s Bar Ilan address, the pressure on Israel from the EU and international community has abated.
Lieberman will still try to push through Israel’s upgraded status in the EU, a move that appears on hold due to the EU’s displeasure with Israel’s ongoing building in Yosh communities.
Foreign Ministry officials admit the visit will not be an easy one, with Lieberman following in the footsteps of Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who routinely spoke of negotiations with the PA and the reality regarding the two-state solution.
From Europe, Lieberman travels to Washington for a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other officials on Capitol Hill. The foreign minister also plans to visit the Holocaust Museum, the site of the recent attack perpetrated by an elderly neo-Nazi.
He then travels to New York City for a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Bank ki-Moon as well as meeting with local Jewish leaders.
