Eight dead in three days on the nation’s roadways is the headline of one of the Sunday morning newspapers, once again lamenting the climbing death toll on Israel’s roadways. As of Sunday morning at 8:00am, 147 people were killed on the nation’s roadways in 2009.
In one of two fatal accidents on erev Shabbos, near Efrat in Gush Etzion, an Arab driver failed to yield the right of way, resulting in the death of Chevron resident 20-year-old Henya Meshulam z”l. There were also a number of injuries in the accident.
The second fatal accident occurred near the Yarcha, a Druse village in the Western Galil. A child, 10, was killed when the jeep driven by his brother flipped. The child was thrown from the vehicle and he sustained a fatal head injury.
On Thursday, two occupants of a private vehicle were crushed by a truck at Sachknin Junction. A 66-year-old woman and a 29-year-old male were killed. A 30-year-old driver appears to have run a red traffic signal.
In Tel Aviv accidents on Thursday, a Bnei Brak man, 22, was killed when his friend, the driver, lost control of a vehicle, striking a tree. Police indicate it appears the driver was intoxicated. Three PA residents were killed in another accident on Thursday in Shomron, on Route 55.
