Deputy Prime Minister/ Interior Minister (Shas) Eli Yishai met on Wednesday with leaders of communities throughout Yehuda and Shomron. They discussed the policies of the new American administration, demands that Israel remove outposts and halt construction in all “settlements”.
Yishai stressed the importance of relations between Jerusalem and Washington, but added such a relationship cannot come at the expense of vital Israeli interests. He pointed out that Israel must work hard to change the view of the Americans, but stated what is even more difficult is the fact that there is a need to change the view of many decision-makers here in Israel.
He stated America must change her perception, a belief that Israel must respond to every dictate. He adds that peace is vital and peace must be made with Israel’s neighbors, but not as it has been conducted in the past, stating the current process has resulted in increased terror.
Yishai used the forum to strengthen Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu rather than expose criticism against Israel’s leader.

The relationship between Jerusalem and Washington is a crucial one for the middle east. Mr. Obama’s speech was big, but as this video points out Obama needs to “remember who he’s talking to.” He is going to be stepping on some toes.
