Former American President Jimmy Carter, who will oversee the upcoming Lebanese elections, is expected to meet next week with President Shimon Peres towards assisting in negotiating the release of Gilad Shalit.
The former American president last year intervened and arranged for a letter form his son to be delivered to his parents via Hamas leader Khaled Meshal.
In a related matter, the soldier’s parents, Noam and Aviva Shalit, met on Wednesday with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. They also met with Ofir Dekel’s replacement, Chaggai Hadas, who is not responsible for representing Israel in talks with Hamas towards obtaining Gilad’s release.

What we think of Carter and his motives is irrelevant.
We can only hope that he is the right shliach to get Gilad released.
Can’t you all just be quiet & hold your tongues? He has a working relationship with the arabs, maybe he will be successful. This would be the wrong time to express your personal opinions of this man.
Yatzmich, Carter has been nothing but a danger to Israel. He wrote a book where he blames the Arab terrorism on the Israelis. This is not a person who can be trusted. This is not a time to be silent.
