Israel’s Gaza Blockade Blamed for Rising Motorcycle Accidents in Gaza

fmo.jpgInterestingly, al-Jazeera has a new angle to blame Israel, this time for the increase in vehicular accidents and fatalities in Gaza involving motorcycles.

The news agency reports that an estimated 8,000 motorcycles have been smuggled into Hamas-controlled Gaza during the period the Rafiach border was breached and continuously via the vast tunnel system between Sinai and Gaza. Officials in Gaza report that due to Israel’s embargo on Gaza, there have been no new car imports and parts are not readily available. As a result, the motorcycles have become the new popular mode of transit for many.

Gazan Police Chief Abu Jihad explains most of the motorcycles are unregistered and most drivers unlicensed. He has begun a program to register them and give proper instruction to drivers, reporting satisfactory success.

On weekends, al-Jazeera explains, many of the young Gazan motorcycle operators meet “in the former Jewish communities of Gush Katif” to show off their new wheels and take part in competition.

There were over 600 accidents involving motorcycles in Gaza in 2008 and in 2009, there are already nine deaths in over 230 motorcycle-involved accidents.

  1. I pray that more Hamas terrorists get themselves motorcycles to show off on. Let them destroy themselves instead of killing Jews! Amen!

By the way, I could imagine why they are having such a hard time with their motorcycles. Being shaped and having the size of Humpty Dumpty shifts one’s center of gravity making it all the more difficult to maintain one’s balance.

  2. So they are complaining about not being able to import cars while their leading export is missiles. Hamas must be code for Moron.

  3. It seems both sides have a problem with motor vehicles. Therefore the principle of pikuah nefesh would mandate a ban on all motor vehicles in Eretz Yisrael.

    Anyone for cavalry charges????

    donkeys? bikes? walking?
