High Court President Justice Dorit Beinish believes a major reform is needed to address the backlog in the nation’s judicial system, advocating the establishment of a nationwide appeals court to hear criminal and civil cases, thereby expediting the process and clearing many cases from the High Court’s overtaxed agenda.
Beinish explains she believes strong Knesset objections stem from the belief the High Court is seeking to establish a constitutional court and this is simply not the case. She added that she is striving for an increasingly streamlined, expeditious and accessible legal system which has yet to become a reality, stating to date she has failed for various reasons, but remains committed to reforming the court system.
