In a somewhat bizarre report, Egyptian officials reports the arrests of 24 Brazilian tourists who were found to be carrying controversial radical material that they intended to distribute in Cairo, literature of the Yisrael Beitenu Party headed by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
According to the al-Shorouq agency, the tourists arrived in Egypt on flight 894 from Rome. During a routine customs search, the “radical material” was found in suitcases of ten of the visitors.
An Egyptian official stated “The leaflets are in Portuguese and call on Brazilians to immigrate to Israel”.
Relations between Cairo and the foreign minister are strained, with Lieberman being among the strong critics of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s unwillingness to come to Jerusalem.
