Report: Spain Seeking to Calm Judges in War Crimes Case

Spain is working to rein in investigative judges who are hot on the tracks of global crimes against humanity, cases that include Israeli officials pertaining to Operation Cast Lead. Spain’s Congress has already passed a bill to limit the authority of the investigative judges, a move compelled by mounting international pressure.

The judges are also investigating alleged US torture in Guantanamo and the actions of China against protests in Tibet.

Spanish lawmakers are now trying to limit the judicial body’s activities to cases directly related to Spain rather than viewing itself as an international human rights watchdog.
