At about 9:00pm Wednesday night, officials announced the new 30 agorot/liter gas tax was going into effect at midnight, not giving motorists too much time to fill up ahead of time. Treasury officials estimate the new tax will generate about NIS 1 billion annually.
 
95 octane gasoline will now sell for NIS 5.79, the equivalent of $5.66 per US gallon.
