For the first time in 40 years, the American flag once again flies over the US Embassy in Libya. A ceremony was held on Tripoli on Wednesday, signaling improved ties between the United States and Libya.
Ambassador Gene Cretz, who was appointed last year, is the highest ranking American official in Libya since 1972 when the ambassador left. The embassy was shut in 1980.
