Close to 2,000 people attended the northern Shomron Lag B’Omer celebration hosted on the ruins of Chomesh, which was authorized by the IDF. Chomesh and the neighboring community of SaNur were destroyed in the 2005 implementation of the Disengagement Plan, which also resulting in the expulsion and destruction of Gaza’s Jewish communities.
 
The event and determination of those seeking to rebuild the community received letters and statements of support from a number of government ministers, including Eli Yishai, Moshe Ya’alon, Yuli Edelstein and MK Dr. Michael Ben-Ari.
 
Efforts have been ongoing to rebuild the northern Shomron community and the determined activists struggle to maintain a presence on the site, defying the army for the past 18 months, tenacious in their vision of returning to the area.
