In the backdrop of reports in the international media of a planned Israeli offensive against Iran, the IDF’s General Staff is convening on Monday in special session to discuss the homefront. Heading the meeting will be IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi.
Also taking part in the forum will be representatives of the different IDF branches and units, as well as commanders of military training bases.
Included on the day’s agenda is the homefront’s ability to sustain a missile attack, both conventional and a non-conventional.
The senior forum will be briefed on various threats, including from Iran, and a panel of mayors from areas that have already been under missile fire, northern and southern, will address the officers. This will include mayors who endured missile fire from Iraq in the 1991 Gulf War.
IDF Homefront Commander Major-General Yair Golan will present the plan to address such attacks, including the deployment of military personnel and volunteers.
The Homefront Command will also display an array of equipment, including special vehicles, rescue and extrication equipment and various protective masks.
