Visiting Bet Shemesh as a guest of Mayor Rav Moshe Abutbul, Minister of Religious Services (Shas) R’ Yaakov Margi announced in the coming months, he plans to appoint neighborhood rabbis in Bet Shemesh.
Mayor Abutbul raised the matter of area rabbonim, explaining the appointments are long overdue and the absence of the positions is not beneficial to the community. At present, there are no state-appointed neighborhood rabbis in Bet Shemesh.
The mayor discussed other matters pertaining to religious services in the city, including the need for additional mikvaos and shuls. The minister acknowledged the seriousness of the issues raised by the mayor, explaining that his office will conduct a comprehensive study of the situation and only then will he be capable of giving a proper response including a timetable for future projects.
