Third Confirmed Swine Flu Victim in Israel

sf3.jpgIsraeli health officials are confirming that a third person has been confirmed to have been infected with swine flu. The 34-year-old male who recently returned from Mexico remains isolated in Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital. His wife has also been taken into isolation fearing she too may be infected.

Following their return from Mexico, the couple appeared at the hospital on Wednesday, complaining of a runny nose and a sore throat, but both were not febrile. As a result, they were sent home. They were however instructed to remain at home and avoid mingling with others for a number of days.

Another woman, 20, who also recently returned from Mexico, was admitted to Ichilov exhibiting signs of the illness. A 33-year-old woman and her 8-month-old infant son are admitted to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Yerushalayim, also in isolation for fear they may have contracted the disease. They were on a NYC-Tel Aviv flight along with an unspecified number of travelers from Mexico.

On Friday, Tomer Vajim, Israel’s first confirmed case of swine flu, was released from Laniado Hospital in good condition following treatment.
