Minister of Strategic Affairs & Vice Premier (Likud) Moshe Ya’alon in an Independence Day interview was quoted by the daily Yisrael HaYom newspaper saying there are senior Jewish elements from within whom are delivering anti-government messages to officials in Washington towards toppling the Netanyahu-led administration.
Ya’alon refused to name names, adding these people are portraying the Netanyahu government in Washington and Ramallah by comparing it to Hamas, “both opposed to peace”.
In his reference to US President Barak Obama, the former IDF chief advises the president to “speak loudly and carry a big stick”, adding “what can one do, it’s a cruel world”. He stated he does not feel America is seeking to compel policies on Israel that are contrary to Israel’s security interests, and the Oslo Agreement and Disengagement were Israeli concepts, not originating in the United States.
Ya’alon acknowledges that there may be “a need to enter into a disagreement to remain steadfast to protect our interests. All said the name of the game is to protect our existence”.
The complete interview will be reported blei neder later in the week.
