Not having any success in taming the party rebel faction, Labor Party leader Ehud Barak on Wednesday removed party secretary Eitan Cabel from his senior position as he is among the more outspoken opponents of Barak’s policies.
Cabel was adamantly opposed to Barak entering into the coalition headed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and waged a fierce battle to persuade colleagues not to support the move. Barak succeeded in convincing the party’s central committee leadership body, clearing the way to enter the coalition.
Despite the support given Barak by the party leaders, Cabel remained tenacious in his opposition, unwilling to accept the democratic process of his own colleagues, prompting Barak’s decision to oust him from his post.
Cabel vows to fight the move, stating Barak does not have the authority to make such a decision without convening party leaders.
Cabel also announced he plans to convene party officials and will launch a committee to probe how the party has incurred such a staggering debt and how and why it fell to its current standing, the fourth largest party.
