Perhaps it was the long hard journey that brought R’ Meir Porush to his new office as deputy minister of education, but the ceremony that took place on Wednesday served as testimony to the widespread support enjoyed by Porush as many prominent rabbonim and admorim were in attendance.
In his brief address, which carried a most serious tone, R’ Porush thanked those who continue to back him and he expressed his commitment to improve chinuch for the children of Eretz Yisrael in the chareidi sector, which is under his responsibility.
The ceremony was only attended by rabbonim and friends, not politicians, with a handful of exceptions, which included the mayors of Elad, Modi’in Illit and Bet Shemesh.
Belz sent a prominent representative, a personal emissary of the Rebbe Shlita, Rav HaChossid Wolf Klein. Representatives of other chassidus were also present, including Chabad, Sanz, Vishnitz and Nadvorna. There were also notables from the Litvish community, and a number of high profile individuals such as Yehoshua Pollack and Rav Chaim Miller. During the modest ceremony, a mezuzah was affixed to the second floor office as R’ Porush spoke of his home, a home that placed an emphasis on chinuch, explaining his father, Rav Menachem Porush, who was also present, was referred to in those days as “Abba of America” since he was always in North America collecting funds and advancing Chinuch Atzmai matters.
Many supporters feel that now, following his defeat in the mayoral race, R’ Porush is rolling up his sleeves and returning to his full-time task, a shaliach for the Am Yisrael.

finally Porush can rest assured knowing he has something “kavodik”
Hopefully he will address the issue of underpaid teachers, crowded classrooms, and challenging the new educational reforms which will force many teachers out of the teaching profession.
