Holocaust Martyrs’ & Heroes’ Remembrance Day is observed throughout Israel on Monday night and Tuesday.
The central theme for this year’s day is ‘Children in the Holocaust’. The official opening ceremony will take place on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 20:00, at Warsaw Ghetto Square, Yad Vashem. It will be carried live on Israel Channels 1, 2, 10, and 33 and on Kol Israel and Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) radio.
Yad Vashem will be closed to the public from 12 noon on April 20, and re-open on Tuesday, April 21 at 8:00 a.m.
Ahead of the day, government officials report survivors living in Israel will be receiving a booklet spelling out all their rights in an effort to assist them in filing for and receiving all the government and non-state benefits at their disposal.
