A decision is expected on Sunday as to the members of the elite inner cabinet forum, the forum which many times makes the critical policy decisions that most impact the nation.
The storm began last week after Yisrael Beitenu leader Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman learned Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu appointed eight members to the forum, stating the move is unacceptable since in coalition talks, the agreement stated the forum will contain a maximum of five members.
Netanyahu was compelled to honor his agreement with Lieberman, his senior coalition partner, resulting in three members being ousted. Lieberman is seeking a three-person forum composed of the leaders of the major coalition partners, Likud, Yisrael Beitenu and Labor. Netanyahu wishes to include two other Likud officials, Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya’alon and Minister of Intelligence & Atomic Energy Dan Meridor.
In the previous administration, the forum was composed of the prime minister, foreign minister and defense minister.
