Bnei Brak Mayor Rav Yaakov Asher has established a Pesach committee to oversee all of the city’s preparations for yomtov, coordinating between all departments in City Hall. Preparations include the city’s sanitation, culture, lighting, engineering, infrastructure, and enforcement departments and bureaus to name a few.
As is the case in Yerushalayim, an emphasis is being placed on garbage pickup to ensure all chametz is removed prior to Wednesday afternoon, operating in Bnei Brak under Operation Bi’ur Chametz.
On major streets, old pashkavilim notices are being removed, gardens and parks cleaned up and other measures taken to bring the areas up to snuff before the start of yomtov. These major areas include a number of streets, such as Chazon Ish, Rabbi Akiva, Ezra, Nechemia, R’ Yochanan Ben Zakkai, Kahaneman, Abarbanel, HaRav Dessler, Damesek Eliezer, and Abuchatzera.
Graffiti will be removed, road barriers and divisions repaired and unauthorized notices will be removed, all towards bringing Bnei Brak to a yomtov preparedness deemed suitable for the Torah-observant community.
Traffic enforcement and safety officials remind motorists that with Pesach upon us schools are closed and additional caution should be exhibited regarding driving and the thousands and thousands of children who are out and about. As we know, many children, especially the smaller ones, are not always mindful to cross at authorized crosswalks, adding many of the children, especially the smaller ones, are not as visible to motorists.
In both Bnei Brak and chareidi areas of Yerushalayim, special metallic receptacles will be distributed for burning the chametz in an orderly and safe fashion.
