ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Yuval Diskin on Sunday announced that since Operation Cast Lead, the IDF’s counter-terrorism offensive in Gaza, Hamas has been working in earnest to replenish and increase its arsenal in preparation for the next round of warfare.
Diskin explained that Egyptian preventative methods are only partially successful, and as a result, at least 22 tons of explosives have entered the Gaza tunnel network along with 45 tons of materials used towards the construction of rockets and other weapons.
The intelligence chief explained government ministers at the weekly cabinet ministers that Hamas is not interested in renewed fighting at present and the limited rocket attacks into southern Israel are being perpetrated by smaller terror organizations other than Hamas.
Diskin stated Hamas is working to rebuild its military capabilities while simultaneously seeking to rebuild Gaza following the military operation that resulted in major structural damage due to the terror organization basing itself in residential areas, buried deep among the civilian population.
