More on Staying in Touch with Voters


On Sunday, YWN reported how much some of the chareidi MKs spent in 2008 for public relations, towards remaining in touch with the voters.

Now a look at some of the other elected representatives and their expenditures in the PR and some other areas.

The record holder is Eliyahu Gabbai (Mafdal) with NIS 93,272. He is not a member of the incoming Knesset. In second place is MK Ibrahim Sarsur (Ra’am-Ta’al) with NIS 89,768. Third place goes to former Meretz MK Ran Cohen (NIS 77,972) and fourth place goes to Said Naffaa (National Democratic Assembly) with NIS 76,952 and almost in fourth place is Amir Peretz (Labor) with NIS 76,087.

Other expenditures that make the news include:
Kadima leader Tzipi Livni, who spent NIS 30,000 for a poll; Yisrael Beitenu leader Avigdor Lieberman who spent over NIS 38,000 for an opinion poll; Binyamin Netanyahu, who spend NIS 15,000 for refreshments; Likud MK Yaakov Yizri, who spent NIS 17,000 for professional advice; Uri Ariel (Ichud HaLeumi) spent over NIS 9,000 for language tutoring. The daily Yisrael HaYom reports that others who took part in the same class include Minister of Religious Service Yitzchak Cohen, Housing Minister Ze’ev Boim, and MK Yitzchak Aharonovitch, all “spending thousands”.

Tzvi Hendel, no longer an MK, spent NIS 53,000 for professional advice, while Ibrahim Sarsur spent NIS 47,000 for photocopying services. Gideon Saar spent NIS 37,000 for a website. Minister Meir Sheetrit records NIS 27,000 for postage; and Dr. Yuval Shteinitz NIS 23,000 to organize assemblies (kenos).
