Alert policemen in Jerusalem’s Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood of Monday night prevented a stabbing attack in the northern Jerusalem community.
Policemen saw two Arab males, residents of the eastern capital, who elicited their suspicions, prompting them to stop the two to identify themselves. A scuffle ensued during which one dropped a commando knife, which he later admitted to police was to be used for a stabbing attack which they planned to commit in retaliation for Operation Cast Lead.
Police around Israel remain on heightened alert status to prevent attacks, with intelligence community officials adding on Monday night that while there are generalized intelligence warnings as is always the case, there are no specific warnings.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak has also imposed on closure on PA (Palestinian Authority) residents, prohibiting them from crossing the Green Line into pre-1967 Green Line Israel until after Purim.
