According to a report in the British Guardian, Israel’s decision to raze illegal Arab structures in portions of the eastern capital is part of Israel’s effort to illegally annex eastern areas of the capital, which the European community [and the United States] views as occupied. The areas in question include much of the capital and the Holy Sites in the Old City, all liberated from Jordanian occupation in the June 1967 Six Day War.

The report follows many other media articles of late that seek to portray Israel in a negative light following Operation Cast Lead. The Guardian states that the demolitions and the establishment of checkpoints are all part of the overall effort to create facts on the ground, trying to “weaken Palestinians and create a division between East Jerusalem and the West Bank”.
