Despite the economic hardships, Israel is willing to accommodate former prime ministers, concerned with their well-being and prestige. The Knesset Finance Committee on Sunday was served an urgent request, from Ra’anan Dinur, the director-general of the Prime Minister’s Office, to approve enlarging the maximum size office permitted former prime ministers, from 140 square meters to 170. Dinur explains the additional 30 meters is required for security related measures.
To date, former PMs could only rent an office up to 140 sq. meters. The committee on Tuesday is expected to approve the increase.
Former prime ministers receive an annual operation budget of NIS 2 million, a vehicle, assistant and staff.
