Shas leader Eli Yishai sent and urgent letter to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert calling on him to delay the suspension of Defense Ministry official Amos Gilad.

Yishai explained that the public is well-aware of the enormous effort being made of late to secure the release of Gilad Shalit from Hamas captivity, stating the dismissal of Gilad at this time may have a profound negative impact on those ongoing efforts.

Yishai suggests that Amos Gilad be permitted to continue in his position as Israeli mediator in Cairo towards reaching an agreement with Hamas on a number of issues; the release of Gilad Shalit, a ceasefire agreement and the opening of the Gaza crossings by Israel.
