Yahadut HaTorah told President Shimon Peres that the party feels Kadima’s inclusion in a coalition government would be beneficial, following the lead of Yisrael Beitenu and Shas.
R’ Moshe Gafne, R’ Yaakov Litzman and R’ Meir Porush met with the president on Thursday night, recommending the mandate be given to Binyamin Netanyahu, as well as expressing support for the inclusion of Kadima in a government coalition.
Gafne stated that at present, the coalition would number 65, too small a number to provide long-term stability. Porush told the president that Yahadut HaTorah would love to see one of its members as prime minister, but at present, this is not a reality and as such, the party recommends the mandate for Netanyahu.
Litzman stated that they are recommending Netanyahu even though he was the one who cut monthly child allowance payments, adding he appears to seeking a way “Lachzor B’Tsuva” to repent.
