Lieberman to be Questioned by Israel Police, ‘Under Warning’

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz has given Israel Police the green light to question Yisrael Beitenu leader Avigdor Lieberman ‘under warning’ in the ongoing investigation of alleged money laundering and other white collar crimes.

As police continue to amass documents in the case (reported HERE) there is a growing feeling that a criminal indictment is likely, justifying the questioning ‘under warning’.

Mazuz on Wednesday held an urgent meeting in his office with Yoav Seglowitz, who heads Israel Police’s investigations unit, along with other senior officials involved in the investigation. The decision was made that questioning Lieberman directly is unavoidable.

Mazuz has also not released his opinion regarding the possibility that Lieberman may become a cabinet minister in the next government, but experts report he is already barred from certain ministerial posts as a result of the ongoing investigation against him, including the treasury and public security, which presides over Israel Police.

Mazuz is not expected to announce his position before President Peres announces his decision regarding the presidential mandate to form a coalition government.
