Ten Jews from Yemen arrived in Eretz Yisrael on Thursday Baruch Hashem. The Jewish Agency for Israel working with the government worked clandestinely to rescue them during a time when the remaining Jewish community is living under the threat of increased violence and attacks. Jewish Agency official Ariela Deporto explains that she is unable to elaborate due to the complexity of the operation involved in bringing Jews to Israel from Yemen.
It was not too long ago that a member of the Yemenite Jewish community was murdered and community leaders have demanded protection (reported HERE). Realizing the perilous situation and the complexity of the diplomatic situation, the Satmar Rebbe Shlita called on the American government to step in and assist (reported HERE).
According to Deporto, one family is nine people; the father is 33 and the mother 30. The children are 1 to 12-years-old. She explains that the parents do speak Hebrew but the children only seem to know a few words. Also among the new immigrants is Sa’id Ben-Yisrael, a veteran member of the Yemenite community who was recently the victim of anti-Semitic attacks, including a grenade attack.
The new immigrants will be moving to a Beersheva absorption center on Thursday. Next week, one of the families will relocate to Ramat Bet Shemesh, where they have relatives.
