Kadima leader Tzipi Livni released a statement in response to the news that Avigdor Lieberman recommended the presidential mandate be given to Likud, under the condition that Binyamin Netanyahu establishes a coalition including Kadima too. Lieberman stipulated he opposes a rotation coalition, calling on Netanyahu to head the broad-based coalition.
Aware that she will not be the next prime minister, nor a prime minister by rotation, Livni stated Kadima will not enter a government to give legitimacy to a right-wing platform and it appears, she is on the way to leading the opposition.
Other senior Kadima officials concurred, stating Lieberman is looking at Kadima for a coalition partner to provide legitimacy for what will otherwise be a right-wing extremist coalition, and the party will not comply, preferring to adhere to its platform and agenda and occupy the benches of opposition.
