Rebbitzin Sheindel Yafa Sternbuch A”H was niftar during the night in Yerushalayim’s Shaare Zedek Medical center at the age of 75. She was the rebbitzin of RAVAD HaGaon R’ Moshe Sternbuch Shlita, of the Eida Chareidis.
The rebbitzin was suffering from Alzheimer’s during recent years. The levaya will leave from the Rav’s home on Mishkelov Street in the Har Nof area of Jerusalem at 1:00pm, making its way past the Gra Shul in Har Nof, the Rav’s shul, for kvura in Har HaZeisim via Kikar Zupnik on Strauss Street.

The Rebitzin was the beloved mother of our Torah Centre community in Johannesburg. She always took a keen interest in all the families of the kehillah, and treated everyone as her own. It was very very tragic to see her deteriorate and eventually be put in a home.
She was a Schreiber from Bnei Brak.
Can we have a report on the Levaya.
The Chazon Ish was their Shadchan.
I think she was a schechter , not a schreiber.

When her husband, the Gaon Rav Moshe later asked the Chazon Ish for his secret of making such a successful shidduch, the Chazon Ish replied that he only checked out if either party was an “akshan”. If neither were, that would ensure Sholem Bayis because any compromises to be made in the marriage would be very easy! In addition to her many kindnesses to me on Shabbosim, I had the honor to drive the Rebbetzin to factories in Pretoria to assist her family’s leather (spalt) business in Bnei Brak. May Hashem be menachem to Rav Moshe and the entire Har Nof and Johannesburg kehillas Al Shem Ha Vilna Gaon (of whom Rav Moshe is a nin). Tiheye nishmata tzrura b’tzror hachayim. Rebetzen Sternbuch was the sister of R’Aryeh and R’Tuvia Schechter. Reb Dovid Soloveitchiks Rebetzen is a sister of R’Moishe Sterbuch.
Rebbetzin Sternbuch A”H was the perfect “Aizer K’negdo” at all times. During Reb Moishe Shlita’s career as an “ilui” making chiddushim, when he was the first to write about the problems with Indian sheitels, and when he learned with my late uncle A”H in Stamford Hill, the late rebbetzin was a pillar of strength and support in his life. Reb Moishe did not have a yeshiva of his own. Instead he quietly wrote his classic “Moadim U’Zmanim” and other great works while his rebbetzin A”H seemed to take care of everything else. Allevai all of our Talmidei Chachamim should be blessed with such an “Aizer K’negdo”.
