Early AM News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


Three firebombs were hurled at Israeli motorists traveling on the Gush Etzion-Chevron Road near Beit Omer. No injuries were reported in the Sunday night attacks.

**A man dressed as Spiderman was taken into custody on Sunday as he jumped onto cars on Route 444 and threw ropes on the vehicles. No injuries reported.

**An Israeli bus was targeted in a Sunday evening rock-throwing attack in the Southern Chevron Hills area. No injuries were reported.

**Officials report that an envelope sent to the Israeli Embassy in Norway contained some type of chemical substance that led to burns to a person who opened it. The report was released by Israeli Ambassador to Norway Michael Eliel. Local police are investigating.

**President Shimon Peres on Sunday met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov who announced his country plans to call for a Mideast peace summit in the coming months.

**Minister Rafi Eitan, who plays a role in efforts to obtain Gilad Shalit’s release, refused on Sunday to go into detail regarding rumors of an imminent deal. He quoted the prime minister, stating any deal with Hamas must include the release of Shalit. As such he explained “It appears his release is not far off”.

**Reliable but unconfirmed reports state Marwan Barghouti has been informed to prepare for imminent release.

**A Kassam rocket landed near a Sderot area kibbutz close to midnight. There were no injuries.
