Eilat hoteliers are lowering rates between 25-30% at present in the hope of attracting Israeli vacationers who are looking for locales to spend their winter break. Perhaps adding to the move is the fact that many Israelis are seeking alternatives to Turkey, having signaled they do not feel safe in Turkey of simply do not wish to spend their money in a country whose leader is leading the battle to isolate Israel and charge her leaders with “war crimes” following Operation Cast Lead.
Some analysts however report that during the past two weeks, “Turkey has lowered its anti-Israel rhetoric,” explaining Israelis are quickly forgetting their anger and are expected to resume flights to turkey.
In Eilat nevertheless, hoteliers are offering a night’s stay for NIS 300-350 (double occupancy), stating this is indeed an attractive offer and they hope many vacationers may opt to remain local this year, spending their money at home.
The quoted price applies to weekdays, not weekends, for four-star facilities, hotel association officials report.
