In a halachic ruling which may be deemed controversial by some, Rav Shlomo Aviner, the rosh yeshiva of Ateret Kohanim, has ruled that a person may interrupt sitting shiva to go and vote, emphasizing the importance of voting.
In a media release from the Cities Action Committee (Matot Arim), Rav Aviner is quoted as saying it is imperative for all eligible voters to exercise their right and cast a ballot for the next leaders of Israel.

Is this chiddush based on the psak of Rav Shach ZT”L who stated elections is not a time for “shev v’al ta’aseh”?
Jews are not permitted to vote for anybody who would give away any land.
This psak is probably based on the fact that these elections are the biggest signs of aveilus. The Medina is dead!
Does anybody know if the Rav has printed his reasoning or just given a blanket statement?
