Turkey Shoots Itself in the Foot

turkey.jpgWhile Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had his day in the media spotlight, and was greeted back home from the Davos economic summit with a hero’s welcome, Israel’s former ally is now beginning to pay the price – feeling the economic crunch for its staunch anti-Israel position during the Gaza War. From a tourism perspective, Israelis represented a major chunk of the flourishing industry in Turkey, now a thing of the past.

Travel polls taken among Israelis concur, and most Israelis today either view Turkey as a hostile country, or prefer to spend their money elsewhere. In the past, Turkey was among the most popular vacation destinations for Israelis.

According to an El Al survey, over 55% of Israelis who traveled to Turkey said they will not return in the coming year. The new hot spots for Israelis include Cyprus, Greece and Bulgaria.

  1. After seeing the headline with picture I honestly thought I was about to read some bizarre story about a turkey getting hold of a pistol somehow!!!

    Disappointing- 😉

  2. Don’t worry about the Turks. The shoe that was thrown at former President Bush was manufactured in Turkey. The owner of the factory has received so far over 100,000 order of the same brown shoe that was thrown at the former President.
