Iranian Vessel Contains Explosives and Rocket Engines

navy1.jpgAccording to a report submitted to the United Nations by Cyprus, the Iranian ship docked in Cyprus since being stopped on its way to Syria was indeed carrying explosives and engines for rockets.

The report lists 800kg of explosives, ammunition, mortar shells, and tank shells.

The ship was sailing under a Cypriot flag (as reported HERE on YWN) and was detained last week on its way to Syria, where is it believed additional armaments were to be loaded prior to setting sail for Gaza.

Cypriot officials have asked the UN Security Council what to do with the weapons found onboard; to destroy them or permit the vessel to continue on its way. One of the fears of Cypriot officials is the UN Security Council will not reach a decision due to Russia’s veto power, and the decision may by thrown to a local Cypriot court, which they would prefer to avoid.

In Israel, the confirmation of the ship’s cargo has prompted officials to reemphasize the need for a strict international role in the prevention of weapons smuggling into Hamas-controlled Gaza.
