Egypt: 18-Month Ceasefire to Begin on Thursday

7.jpgWhile Kassam rockets and mortar shells have once again become daily occurrences, Egyptian officials are reporting an 18-month ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas will begin on Thursday.

Talks with the various terrorist factions are being conducted by Egypt, leading some officials in Israel to doubt just how stable such an agreement is going to be. Just this morning, Sunday, two Kassam rockets were fired into Israel is a 30-minute period. A Grad Katyusha rocket landed south of Ashkelon on Shabbos morning.

According to the daily Yisrael HaYom Newspaper, some Israeli officials are disappointed that the Egyptian-brokered deal will only span an 18-month period and not longer as Israel wished. “Security officials” are quoted as expressing support for an open-ended ceasefire agreement.

According to PA reports, the sudden visit to Cairo by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) signals significant progress, compelling him to cancel a planned visit to the Czech Republic and a change of venue to Cairo.

Israel continues to stress it main concern remains halting the smuggling of weaponry and ammunition into Gaza via tunnels, but confirm reports Egypt is deploying high-tech means to monitor the situation, including cameras and sensors along Philadelphi Road.

In the meantime, in Jerusalem, IDF officials are confirming they have a list of targets which will be hit by the IAF as the government plans to continue responding to any rocket attacks.

  1. Wow, this is really great. We can look forward to 18 months of peace and tranquililty. Unless they continue to fire rockets and expect Jews to have a lack of logic and brains and seichel and somehow accept the incoming barrage as “fair” according to fakrumpta Arab logic that the world eats by the bucket. Here’s a perfect opportunity to pause and say, the rockets are landing in Israeli backyards. Where’s the UN with outraged resolutions? Where are world leaders screaming about distress injury and death to Jews in the land of Israel? They are now firing rockets in a vacuum, by themselves, and the world is saying nothing. Should Israel kill even one of them right now, here come the UN resolutions against Israel, and the screaming leftwingers shouting “unfair” and “human rights.” Where are our human rights? Answer: we have none. We have been made by history and perhaps it is our fate to be the defenseless sacrificial lamb, while the world screams bloody murder when we lift a finger to secure ourselves. Obama, you are a fabulous “reddener.” Do you have any words for us this week as the rockets start landing in Sderot again?
